What about Telecommuting?

Many employees and employers are considering telecommuting as as a viable alternative to a typical 9-to 5 office job. Hewlett-Packard currently has about 15,000 full-time telecommuters who are working from home.

Why not send the work to people instead of the other way around? Many telecommuters find working at home challenging. "It's difficult to shut the home office door and not wonder what else is happening in other parts of the house, especially if you have children," commented Jan Tyler, a Connecticut mother who works as a free-lance magazine writer. "Sometimes I find myself getting up and folding a load of laundry when I know I should be writing."

Setting boundaries and organizing work time and space within a household are some of the dilemmas telecommuters face. Are you a telecommuter? How do you meet these challenges?
